For our top picks, we preferred online claim reporting capabilities (including mobile app options) for customer convenience, but we also wanted companies to offer easy access to real human support. Whether you want to have another person on the line throughout the whole process or prefer to keep things digital, a good insurance company offers you plenty of options for claims.
Naturally, insurance companies use your driving past as an indicator of how you will drive in the future. It can be difficult to find affordable car insurance if you have a checkered driving history. While it’s very unlikely you will find an insurance company that won’t increase your premium after an at-fault accident or other violation, the degree of the rate increase will vary by company. Let’s compare rate increases for some common violations across major insurance companies.
While not as highly rated in the Apple App Store as apps from Farmers and Allstate, users note that State Farm’s 4.2-star app doesn’t have significant issues with functionality. You’ll be able to view your policy, request roadside assistance, and file a claim. You won’t find more personalized features like Allstate’s QuickFoto capability, but this more basic functionality means that it offers a more straightforward experience for anyone who isn’t particularly mobile-inclined.
Often a commercial insured's liability insurance program consists of several layers. The first layer of insurance generally consists of primary insurance, which provides first dollar indemnity for judgments and settlements up to the limits of liability of the primary policy. Generally, primary insurance is subject to a deductible and obligates the insured to defend the insured against lawsuits, which is normally accomplished by assigning counsel to defend the insured. In many instances, a commercial insured may elect to self-insure. Above the primary insurance or self-insured retention, the insured may have one or more layers of excess insurance to provide coverage additional limits of indemnity protection. There are a variety of types of excess insurance, including "stand-alone" excess policies (policies that contain their own terms, conditions, and exclusions), "follow form" excess insurance (policies that follow the terms of the underlying policy except as specifically provided), and "umbrella" insurance policies (excess insurance that in some circumstances could provide coverage that is broader than the underlying insurance).

You may wonder whether RV insurance is necessary. However, if you fail to purchase it, you may be facing a rather unpleasant ordeal. In many cases, the homeowner’s and auto policies you have won’t be enough to cover RV components, such as the accessories, plumbing, or appliances. Without a true RV policy, any emergency expenses you incur while you travel are going to have to come from your own pocket.
Upon termination of a given policy, the amount of premium collected minus the amount paid out in claims is the insurer's underwriting profit on that policy. Underwriting performance is measured by something called the "combined ratio", which is the ratio of expenses/losses to premiums. A combined ratio of less than 100% indicates an underwriting profit, while anything over 100 indicates an underwriting loss. A company with a combined ratio over 100% may nevertheless remain profitable due to investment earnings.
National General’s list of discounts is varied enough to provide every type of customer with a chance to lower their premiums and/or deductibles, but Baby Boomers are particularly well positioned to capitalize on them. For example, the company allows customers to bundle RV and auto policies under its One Convenient Policy program. National General also offers homeowners discounts that are easy for them to qualify for, as Boomers are more affluent than other generations on average and thus more likely to own a house and additional vehicles.
Medical Payment: This part of the Progressive RV insurance policy, the “medpay”, covers medical expenses for you and whoever else is in the vehicle if your RV is involved in an event, irrespective of who was at fault. When checking out policy options, specifically ask about this coverage as medical payment coverage is one of the most important ones to have.
You can get various levels of liability coverage for your RV, although many states often require that you have a minimum amount of coverage. However, that might not be enough to completely cover your liability in case you injure someone. So you might want to get more coverage by adding additional liability coverage to your policy or getting an umbrella policy that will provide you with additional general liability coverage.

I am not sure about insurance outside of Texas but here in Texas we have Mutual insurance companies that are able to provide great coverage for a very low price compared to Good Sam, Progressive, GEICO ect. I get request from good sam regularly tell me that they can save me 3 to 4 hundred dollars a year and the insurance is tailored to motor homes and if I will ask for a quote they will send me a free gift. So I just send them my current coverage amounts and rates and they keep sending me screwdrivers. I use them for Xmas presents. My coverage is with Germania Farm Mutual out of Brenham, Texas. We have everything with them, home cars trucks, motor home, but they still want cover my motorcycle. Maybe they think I am too old.

How much this will cost will depend on the value of the items. Some policies give you automatic coverage of a certain amount of your personal items. This type of coverage varies widely. One company provides nearly $100,000 in coverage, whereas many others provide only up to $3,000. Other companies might cover just items below $1,000 in value each, and require scheduled coverage for items valued above that amount.
Whether RV insurance is optional or required, be aware of the pitfalls of going without RV insurance. Lots of RV owners leave their RVs parked out in the open yard, leaving them susceptible to storm damage, vandalism, and possible theft. If your RV holds a great deal of value, make sure to purchase full coverage RV insurance to protect against a potential loss.
Progressive’s app has 3.4 stars in the Apple App Store and has the same functions as most other providers’ apps: You can report a claim, pay your bills, view your policy, get in touch with an agent, and request roadside assistance. However, out of over 600 current ratings, many users complain that the app is buggy and isn’t easy to use. If mobile access is important to you, Progressive may make a stressful process even more frustrating.

Interestingly, the market shrunk after the recession then grew about 51% between 2010 and 2015, though it has since begun to drop in size again. In 2017, life insurance premiums exceeded the amount spent in four of the past five years, but still came short of levels seen in 2008 and 2015. Check out our graph below to see how the market has fluctuated in the last decade. All numbers in billions.

Business insurance can take a number of different forms, such as the various kinds of professional liability insurance, also called professional indemnity (PI), which are discussed below under that name; and the business owner's policy (BOP), which packages into one policy many of the kinds of coverage that a business owner needs, in a way analogous to how homeowners' insurance packages the coverages that a homeowner needs.
The insured receives a contract, called the insurance policy, which details the conditions and circumstances under which the insurer will compensate the insured. The amount of money charged by the insurer to the Policyholder for the coverage set forth in the insurance policy is called the premium. If the insured experiences a loss which is potentially covered by the insurance policy, the insured submits a claim to the insurer for processing by a claims adjuster. The insurer may hedge its own risk by taking out reinsurance, whereby another insurance company agrees to carry some of the risk, especially if the primary insurer deems the risk too large for it to carry.
Although most auto insurance policies offer this one, towing or providing fuel for an RV is much more expensive than towing or filling up a car or an SUV. Having the right roadside assistance coverage is extremely important, especially if you’re far from home. Roadside assistance can help you cover the costs of mechanical or electrical breakdowns, battery failure, flat tires, or lock-outs, among many other things.
The above is meant as general information and as general policy descriptions to help you understand the different types of coverages. These descriptions do not refer to any specific contract of insurance and they do not modify any definitions, exclusions or any other provision expressly stated in any contracts of insurance. We encourage you to speak to your insurance representative and to read your policy contract to fully understand your coverages.
