Class C motorhomes are the classic mid-sized motorized RV, typically with a sleeping area extending above the cab area. Premiums vary based on state of residence and the size, age and market value of the motorhome, plus frequency of use. An Idaho buyer looking at a supersized Class C motorhome[3] valued at $120,000 was quoted $3,097 a year; some owners report similar rates, but others are paying $800-$1,000 a year.
I am not sure about insurance outside of Texas but here in Texas we have Mutual insurance companies that are able to provide great coverage for a very low price compared to Good Sam, Progressive, GEICO ect. I get request from good sam regularly tell me that they can save me 3 to 4 hundred dollars a year and the insurance is tailored to motor homes and if I will ask for a quote they will send me a free gift. So I just send them my current coverage amounts and rates and they keep sending me screwdrivers. I use them for Xmas presents. My coverage is with Germania Farm Mutual out of Brenham, Texas. We have everything with them, home cars trucks, motor home, but they still want cover my motorcycle. Maybe they think I am too old.

In most countries, life and non-life insurers are subject to different regulatory regimes and different tax and accounting rules. Michigan weighs in with the highest RV insurance rates, at a median annual premium of $4,490. Why are the average rates in Michigan so expensive? Because the state has mandatory personal injury protection (PIP) coverage, which results in much higher costs for the insurance companies whenever there is an RV insurance claim. The second highest is Louisiana, with a median annual premium of $2,912.

We are a busy family, but like to take occasional trips with our motor home. We didn't think we needed a specialized policy because our motor home is parked in our driveway most of the time. In the United States, the most prevalent form of self-insurance is governmental risk management pools. They are self-funded cooperatives, operating as carriers of coverage for the majority of governmental entities today, such as county governments, municipalities, and school districts. Although a relatively small corner of the insurance market, the annual contributions (self-insured premiums) to such pools have been estimated up to 17 billion dollars annually.[40]
Though Safeco’s app boasts a high 4.7 rating with over 5,000 ratings in the Apple App Store and an average 4.1 rating in Google Play, the reviews tell a different story. The most common complaint is that the app simply redirects you to the Safeco website, which is poorly formatted for mobile use. Global insurance premiums grew by 2.7% in inflation-adjusted terms in 2010 to $4.3 trillion, climbing above pre-crisis levels. In general, though, expect your RV insurance to cost less than your car insurance.
If you attempt to insure your RV along with your car, odds are you'll only get coverage for physical damage, without any of the comprehensive features necessary to an RV that serves as a primary residence. Ideally, RVs that are primary residences should have policies that combine the features of both home and auto insurance, even if the RV is stationary.
Definite loss: The loss takes place at a known time, in a known place, and from a known cause. The classic example is death of an insured person on a life insurance policy. Fire, automobile accidents, and worker injuries may all easily meet this criterion. Other types of losses may only be definite in theory. Occupational disease, for instance, may involve prolonged exposure to injurious conditions where no specific time, place, or cause is identifiable. Ideally, the time, place, and cause of a loss should be clear enough that a reasonable person, with sufficient information, could objectively verify all three elements.

However, treating insureds differently when there is no actuarially sound reason for doing so is unlawful discrimination.

In July 2007, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) released a report presenting the results of a study concerning credit-based insurance scores in automobile insurance. The study found that these scores are effective predictors of risk. It also showed that African-Americans and Hispanics are substantially overrepresented in the lowest credit scores, and substantially underrepresented in the highest, while Caucasians and Asians are more evenly spread across the scores. The credit scores were also found to predict risk within each of the ethnic groups, leading the FTC to conclude that the scoring models are not solely proxies for redlining. The FTC indicated little data was available to evaluate benefit of insurance scores to consumers.[58] The report was disputed by representatives of the Consumer Federation of America, the National Fair Housing Alliance, the National Consumer Law Center, and the Center for Economic Justice, for relying on data provided by the insurance industry.[59]


My National General policy is up for renewal so I have shopped around. Tried FMCA (Progressive) and AARP(Hartford) and they couldn't compete. I have total replacement coverage with National General and the other companies would not provide that. I also have my car on the same policy and although Hartford were close Progressive was almost double. I have had Hartford previously and they did pay up quickly when I had a claim so I would like to use them again, but only if they can offer a competitive policy.
