While competition certainly helps keep premiums in check, it’s not the only factor. “In addition, under Virginia’s laws for seeking recovery, the person at fault for causing a car accident is held responsible for any resulting harm,” says Schrad. “Virginia also requires uninsured motorist coverage as part of a driver’s own auto insurance plan in case they are involved in an accident with an uninsured driver,” he continues. Not all states require drivers to carry uninsured motorist coverage.
However, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage will make up the difference between the costs in replacing or repairing your RV, and the amount covered by the insurance of the person who hit you. Even if you forgo uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage for your car, you may want to get it for your RV for this reason. This is especially important if you used a loan to finance your RV because if your RV is totaled, your loan could suddenly come due and you may not have the money.

In most countries, life and non-life insurers are subject to different regulatory regimes and different tax and accounting rules. The main reason for the distinction between the two types of company is that life, annuity, and pension business is very long-term in nature – coverage for life assurance or a pension can cover risks over many decades. By contrast, non-life insurance cover usually covers a shorter period, such as one year.

Progressive’s app has 3.4 stars in the Apple App Store and has the same functions as most other providers’ apps: You can report a claim, pay your bills, view your policy, get in touch with an agent, and request roadside assistance. However, out of over 600 current ratings, many users complain that the app is buggy and isn’t easy to use. If mobile access is important to you, Progressive may make a stressful process even more frustrating.

The amount of insurance your RV requires will mainly depend on the type of motorhome or towable you own, how often you use it, and whether you plan to reside in it for six or more months out of the year. My National General policy is up for renewal so I have shopped around. Tried FMCA (Progressive) and AARP(Hartford) and they couldn't compete. I have total replacement coverage with National General and the other companies would not provide that. I also have my car on the same policy and although Hartford were close Progressive was almost double. I have had Hartford previously and they did pay up quickly when I had a claim so I would like to use them again, but only if they can offer a competitive policy.

RV insurance in particular is offered by many auto insurance companies who may not be well prepared for handling the intricacies of an RV insurance claim. When choosing who is going to insure your vehicle, make sure it is a provider who specializes in RV insurance—regardless of its size—or that at least has a good track record of dealing with RV insurance policies and claims.
Progressive’s coverage starts at $125 per year, but how much you’ll pay will depend on your personal situation such as your driving record, your age, your RV, the coverage that you choose, and other factors. You can also qualify for discounts if you’re a responsible driver with no accidents in the last three years, if you’re renewing your policy without having had any claims, if you’re the original owner, if you pay in full, or if you’re a prompt payer.
The financial stability and strength of an insurance company should be a major consideration when buying an insurance contract. An insurance premium paid currently provides coverage for losses that might arise many years in the future. For that reason, the viability of the insurance carrier is very important. In recent years, a number of insurance companies have become insolvent, leaving their policyholders with no coverage (or coverage only from a government-backed insurance pool or other arrangement with less attractive payouts for losses). To ensure that providers’ financial affairs were up to snuff, we looked at independent evaluations from insurance rating and credit rating agencies A.M. Best, S&P Global, Moody’s, and J.D. Power. While each agency has its own rating scale, we required companies to have A or “above average” ratings from all four — solid indications that companies are in great financial health. Acquiring ratings from all four agencies also indicates that companies care enough about their business’ reputation to apply for these voluntary review processes. For an industry that’s centered around the principle of being there when you need help most, we found this focus on transparency to be the mark of a good provider. Smaller companies like Good Sam or National Interstate may provide seemingly better discounts, but they tend to only submit themselves for review to one or two agencies.
Health insurance: A separate health insurance will add to the typical medical coverage that you receive in one of the Progressive packages for your RV. This health insurance  will cover you if you are hurt in an accident, or if you get sick. It will also cover gaps that might exist if you only have medical coverage as part of your Progressive RV insurance.
If you get into an accident on the way to your vacation, you may need vacation liability. Not only is your vacation canceled, but you might have added expenses like hotels or campground fees. Vacation liability insurance pays for your vacation expenses this scenario – when you’re unable to take your trip. Usually this coverage is capped, so read your policy’s fine print to determine the limits.
A quick look at the company’s page on the Better Business Bureau shows just how satisfied consumers are with its customer service. Most insurance companies display a large amount of negative feedback online—it comes with the territory—National General, however, enjoys largely positive customer reviews and averages fewer complaints than many of its competitors. Baby Boomers highly value good customer service, and this level of satisfaction with National General can also be seen on other online review outlets.
